Heading to university can be incredibly daunting. You’re abandoning the home comforts of mum and dad to go it alone in the big wide world. Scary stuff. But there are ways to make the initial move less intense. Like decorating your brand new bedroom!

Finally you’ve got the freedom to do what you want, when you want, how you want, so make the most of it! Injecting a little personality into a space is a great means to make you feel right at home. But how? Bringing style from catwalk to the bedroom, here’s how you can get your uni pad bang on trend.

Glamour
There’s nothing uni students love more than a bit of glamour. Forget about microwave meals and daytime TV, what undergraduates really want is a taste of the celebrity lifestyle.
Weekday partying and shopping splurges; ‘Made in Chelsea’ eat your heart out! So why not incorporate this sense of glamour into your bedroom? It doesn’t have to be expensive. There are plenty of bedroom accessories UK available to give your room a feeling of complete luxury. Think rich pinks and purples; opulent silk bedding, cosy cushions and diamante adornments; lovely.

Quirky
Picture the topsy-turvy world of the Mad Hatter’s tea party and you’re on the right track. Thinking outside the box is what the fashion world does best, so why not be unconventional and follow suit? Laugh in the face of landlords who won’t let a speck of paint touch their walls, and show them that creativity doesn’t end there!
The more bizarre the better we say. From teacup shaped lamps to multi-coloured fairy lights, there are endless ways to give your room a quirky edge (without white-tacking a single poster!) And if you really want to put your imagination to the test, then why not try hand making some of your room’s accessories? Knitted embellishments are big for 2013, so go wool-crazy.

Prints
A huge trend on the catwalk this season, are bold and eye-catching prints. Grabbing the attention of fashion audiences across the board, this year’s models have been caught strutting their stuff in all types of patterns. From fabulous florals to sultry animal prints, there are a whole host of designs just waiting to bring your uni room to life. Be it through a simple pair of statement curtains or striking zebra print bedding, the choice is yours!

So what are you waiting for? Make your room the envy of your uni mates and treat it to the transformation it deserves.

    1. I was the same when I moved out! It's such a shame that as time goes on, other bills take over and there doesn't seem to be as much spare cash about to pretty the place up. I really should make an effort to put some aside each month to spend on the house x
