The week: 12.8.13

18.8.13

So this week was a pretty bad one.  I can't remember much about Monday, but on Tuesday I headed to Bicester to track down my dream handbag.  I was meant to go with a friend; in the end she couldn't make it, but so desperate was I that I drove there on my way, only to be thoroughly disappointed.  I don't like the revamp that Michael Kors has had, there was nothing there that was a particular bargain, so I trotted down to Kate Spade, still hopeful that the bag of my dreams was waiting for me there.  It wasn't.  The prices weren't that great either.  The sale section was fab (but much too bright for me) but I'm sure that some of the jewellery was more expensive than the store in Westfield?!  I bought two bangles in Westfield for £25 each, yet in Bicester there were no bangles under £33!  Anyway, I was tempted to buy something (anything!) so that my trip wouldn't have been a waste, but then figured that'd be a bad move.  So I drove home and bought the bag from my wishlist and a Yankee Candle....

I was still feeling a bit stroppy on Wednesday, so my sister and I headed to town to treat ourselves.  The shoes I bought in Primark cheered me up immensely, and so did our lunch in Ed's Easy Diner.  Things weren't so good though when I realised something was seriously up with my laptop.  You know the one....the one I've only had 8 months?  Yes, I was being a sheep and looking for that YouTube standard - ukulele music - and all I can think is that I've downloaded something dodgy.  Aaaaand my stepdad, the one person who I know can fix it, is floating around in the Mediterranean somewhere on a cruise.

So Thursday I renewed my subscription to McAfee, ran a scan which found (and fixed) one virus and two unwanted programmes.  It's now saying everything's fine but it's not!!!  My beloved laptop, the best one I've ever had, is so unresponsive I can't even turn it on.  Hence the exceptionally old (but cute!) photo of Dudley above.  I'm back on my old faithful HP that saw me through my last laptop malfunction, but this doesn't have a port for my SD card and I can't find the lead to connect my camera so I'm stuck trawling through the photos already stored on here.

Things got a bit better on Friday when an old friend came over for a make over and catch up.  We ended up heading into town where I found a gorgeous little necklace and had just an all-round nice day.  I think I should clarify here that I live near lots of towns...I don't just go to the same one all the time!

Saturday was a no-makeup day, when I managed to finish the book I was reading before lunchtime (such a good feeling!), made yummy pasta for tea and watched Gangster Squad wrapped up in a blanket on the sofa with Ed.  It's been such a long time since we watched a film together in it's entirety....I usually fall asleep or get bored!

And then today I might watch another film.  I didn't manage How To Lose A Guy In 10 Days last week, but might have to watch Dreamgirls today.  It's my guilty pleasure!

I'm looking forward to next week....things can only get better, right?  Swimming with Ella tomorrow, my stepdad's back on Wednesday and Thorpe Park on Friday.   Lots to look forward to!

  1. It's so annoying when you go all that way to end up getting disappointed! Maybe on your next visit you'll find your dream bag. :)

  2. You've got one night only, one night only, that's all you have to spare...
LOVE Dreamgirls. How to lose a guy is worth watching, Kate Hudson and MM are great together in that movie!
Sorry you had one of those weeks where nothing seems to work out right and on top of that things go wrong, MEH.
Take a big breath, remind yourself of what's currently going great in your life and start the week tomorrow with a good feeling : )

  5. I find Bicester very hit and miss - sometimes I come away with loads and other times there's nothing I like and the prices are still quite steep. Hope you get the laptop fixed soon. x
