I spotted these ideas in a list on Michelle's instagram the other day, I'm not sure where they're from originally though.  I had a read through, and whilst they weren't all applicable, some of them really appealed to me.  So rather than a list of unachievable New Year's Resolutions, here's a nice little list of the things I'll be trying to remember to do from now on...

1.  Give lots of compliments.
2.  Change.  Get a haircut, try new perfume, get new sheets.  Become better than you were before.
3.  Eat healthier.
4.  Learn to cook something fancy.
5.  Get up earlier and watch the sun come up.
6.  Tell everyone how much you appreciate them.
7.  Keep your room clean.
8.  Wake up every morning and tell yourself you're going to have a good day.
9.  Go to the library.
10.  Make new memories.
11.  Try to find something to appreciate in everything you do or experience.
12.  Become your own best friend.
13.  Buy yourself a hot chocolate and drink it alone in a cafe.
14.  Learn to love every bit of yourself.
15.  Stop making a big deal out of the little things (totally stole this one from Beyonce!)

Is there anything you'll be trying to do next year?

K-and-Co-embellished-party-dresses

So I woke up this morning and realised that, in my desire to prolong Christmas for as long as possible, I may be a little late putting this up.  I thought New Year's Eve was Wednesday and I don't like to think of outfits until well after Christmas but I'm putting this up early this morning so that, if you like anything, you can take advantage of the free delivery K & Co offer!

You don't need me to tell you that New Year's Eve is *the* night where sequins are a-go.  You can get away with dressing as glitzy as you like, although in my opinion it's best to leave the golds for Christmas and opt for cooler, silver tones instead.

And if sequins aren't your bag (FYI, that first, Gatsby-inspired dress is my favourite), I think this Holly Willoughby dress is a more understated way to ring in the new year, with the lacy back adding a little bit of glam.  And for the colour-shy, this black dress with lace sleeves is lovely too....not to mention on sale for only £13!

Unfortunately I'm one of these people who hates NYE, so my sequin days are long behind me.  But for those of you out celebrating, here are my top tips....the higher the heels the better, there's no such thing as OTT and drink that glass of water.  You'll regret it if you don't.  Enjoy!

So today, I wrapped up warm in the face of the hazy winter sun and set off to meet Lizzie for a morning of shopping and hot chocolates.  After a mooch around the shops, and fighting the urge to buy lovely grey suede coat hangers, we settled down in Costa to set the world to rights.

Turns out it was a conversation I really needed.  I've been feeling wholly uninspired on the blogging front and lack a bit of direction.  Talking with Lizzie provided much-needed motivation and a sounding board in general.  My friends and family know about my blog now, but it's always nice to chat to a fellow blogger to get a bit of perspective.

Oh, and for the record.  This winter sun makes it a real pain to take photos!

Organic-Surge-Beauty-Bloggers-Bundle
Exclusive to blog readers, this Organic Surge Beauty Blogger's Bundle is perfect for anyone looking to give a little beauty kit to a friend or loved one, that's a little bit different to the norm.

To my knowledge, you can't get Organic Surge on the high street, so this is a great way to introduce a new range to someone.  It includes a shower gel, hair mask, hand & nail cream and daily moisturiser.  Past experience tells me that Organic Surge are good quality products and well worth their price tag; but the best bit is that, buy this through the link above and you'll get a nice little discount.  FYI, it's not an affiliate link or anything like that!

I had big plans for my YouTube channel this Christmas.  There was a schedule, of 12 different videos to put up daily with a variety of content.  I went and bought a full HD camera though, which meant the upload times were horrendous (I'm talking 10 hours +) and I just can't do it.  Anybody doing Vlogmas, I take my hat off to you!

Fear not though, I'll be tweaking that content into blog form, and you can expect to see it all here on Scared Toast instead.  I hope you'll enjoy.

For now, I've attached the 3 videos which successfully uploaded.  There's the unboxing of my Love Me Beauty box, a baking recipe for some festive cupcakes using some goodies that the folks at Baking Mad sent over, and, my personal favourite, a Christmas quiz with my little sister.  Prepare yourselves for that one guys, she's more than a little ditzy!

Let me know what you think of the videos, and watch out for the new posts here.  I've finished work for the holidays now, so fingers crossed I'll have lots of time to put up some quality articles!

Neom-Scents-of-Christmas-Candle-Set
Neom candles are definitely a real luxury. So if there's someone special in your life that you really want to treat, I think Neom is the way to go.

This Scents of Christmas set includes three candles, all scented with a different aspect of Christmas.  There's Christmas Wish - with notes of Christmas cake, Harmonises - a woody, tree scent, and Comforting - evoking the scent of a smoky log fire.  Beautiful to give as a set, or just as special divided up as stocking fillers.

I'm not going to pretend that the price isn't eyewatering but if you can't treat the ones you love at Christmas, when can you, eh?

Watch out for the final Christmas Gift Idea on Monday!

Secret Santa is a great idea – only one present to buy and there’s the added surprise of ‘who has got who’. However, if you’ve been stuck with the name of someone you’re not very familiar with, knowing what to get them can seem a little impossible. Luckily, there are loads of gifts available that are safe and suitable for pretty much anyone. We’ve scoured the net and came up with a list of some of our favourite foolproof options.

The mug
Mugs are the easiest safe gift. After all, who doesn’t love tea or coffee?! And even if your recipient isn’t a caffeine fan, everyone has to drink something! You could even go one step further and have their mug personalised. Loads of sites offer this now, and you can find this and lots of other secret Santa gifts with GettingPersonal.co.uk. You could also consider a mug set that contains hot chocolate and other goodies, too.

The chocolates
Again, everyone loves chocolate, and it’s generally a much safer option that alcohol, as not everyone is as fond of a glass as red as we may be. Chocolate is everywhere as well, so is the easiest thing in the world to buy. However, you can still put thought into it by choosing something really cute. How about a chocolate version of The Snowman? Anything cute and Christmassy is sure to be a hit.

The beauty product
A good option if you’ve drawn the name of a female (or a male who likes to take care of himself!). There are lots of things you could go for, too, including stuff like hand cream, lip balms, bath products, hair care and face masks. You could even put together a mini pamper basket depending on the budget, which is bound to impress. A male grooming kit is also likely to go down well, as is things like male facial scrubs, aftershaves and shower gels.

The office accessory
Perfect of course, if they work in an office. Most office workers would really appreciate something useful for their desk, such as a new pen, a desk calendar or a memo pad. Or if you want to go for something a little more amusing, why not choose a novelty office gift? Stress balls are a funny choice for those with a lot on their plates, which let’s face it, is most of us this time of year. Or how about an ‘on this day’ calendar to give them something interesting to read whilst they’re stressing over their new year’s emails?

The diary
Regardless of their occupation, I think it’s fair to say that every adult would appreciate the aid of a diary in their lives. They don’t have to be boring either, as you can pick up some really stylish yet reasonably priced ones now. If your budget is a little higher, why not look into having their initials embellished on the front for an added personal touch? (And be sure to put your birthday in, for future reference of course!)

I try to keep these Wednesday interiors posts (oh yeah, did you notice it's a regular Wednesday slot?!) fairly short and sweet.  They're inspiration, so it's all about images rather than words.  So with that in mind, here's a selection of what's been filling up my pinterest boards of late.  And yes, monochrome is definitely becoming my thing....

MAC-Rebel-lipstick
MAC-Rebel-lipstick-swatch
Rebel looks to be a deep purple in bullet form, but is far more pink-toned upon application.  MAC describe it as a "vivid pinkish purple".

Vivid is definitely the key word here, and Rebel can be smudged into the lips for more of a stain, or applied all over for a bolder look.  It's a satin finish which leave the lip with a slight sheen and won't feel too drying.

This is one of my favourite lipsticks for this time of year, and a great one for anyone who wants to wear a more berry-toned lipstick without it being too dark.

If I hadn't bought it for myself already, this notebook would be top of my list!

I think most girls love notebooks.  Scribbling down notes, doodles and, most importantly for bloggers, lists!  Moleskines are always great quality, and this white ruled one is really chic.  I got this one from Paperchase for £13.50, so not the cheapest notebook, but a lovely little treat nonetheless.

And the pens?  £1 each from Muji.  They come in a variety of nib sizes and a whole host of colour.  The perfect gift for the writer in your life!

Keep your eyes peeled for the rest of my Christmas Gift Ideas!

Party season is upon us, and looking the part can be a minefield.  Luckily, help is on hand with this guest post from Nathalie Martin.

Having made the mistake of leaving my Christmas party dress shopping to the last-minute this week, I wanted to report my findings. It seems a new trend had magically seeped into my sub-conscious because the gold sequin dip hem dress I was after from New Look had sold out. The most frustrating part? It was on sale for just £9! So, not only did I miss out on buying the dress I was after, I missed out on a good deal. Luckily I finally tracked down the gold sequin party dress that I will be strutting my stuff in at my office Christmas party next week, pictured below with some gold accessories I also picked out.
Here are some celebrity fashion shots showing them sporting the gold sparkle or sequin look that may help inspire you, including Sam and Jasmine from TOWIE, Kim Kardashian and Selena Gomez
For anyone else on a similar mission, here are some more sparkly gold dresses that you can still get your hands on from the Goddiva party dress collection for your Christmas or New Year party but be quick! Take it from me, they are likely to sell out very soon…

If you want to hear more from Nathalie, make sure you follow her on twitter!

The other week I shared my Christmas tree crisis with you.  I opted for a monochrome look in the end, and went with this white/silver/grey/black affair.

I'm not sure I should admit how much I spent on baubles, but doesn't it look wonderful?  Changing themes meant I was starting from scratch on the decoration front, so a little bit of expenditure was a given, right?

And let me share with you Ed's addition to the tree:
Yes, that is a toy polar bear sitting atop our festive wonder.  I was struggling to find a silver star, so Ed decided to buck the trend and buy this instead.  I quite like him sitting there in all his quirkiness though.  Just don't tell Ed I said that...

*The leaves on the trees framing the road to work beautifully and looking a spectacular shade of red*

*Porridge with golden syrup really is the best breakfast.  Especially when eaten fully dressed, but snuck back into bed*

*How beautiful and wintery a Christmas tree all decorated in silver and white is*

*Leaves dancing merrily out of driveways as the wind takes them off on a journey*

*The days drawing in quicker*

*That white nail varnish could be my absolute favourite*

*Snuggling up in bed with the window open a touch and a chill in the air is perfect*

If you're looking for a pampering product which arrives beautifully packaged, then look no further.  Conscious Skincare is always a winner for me, and they've outdone themselves with the rustic, alpine-esque gift wrapping service which you can see in the background.  It's a really sturdy tube, and the best bit is that it comes free of charge!!

This sweet orange and frangipani bath soak smells lovely (that natural fragrance which I love), and I can imagine will be as luxurious as the body butter I've already tried.  Admittedly, it is a little pricey, but if you know somebody into their eco-friendly products then this could be a winner for them.

Life's been a bit hectic lately.  I don't know what's happened, but between work, the gym, tidying and general living, I feel like my blog's slipped a little.

Ideally, I like to spend the weekends blogging.  I snap away to get all the photos I need, then get ready with a hot chocolate and marshmallows and settle down to start writing.

I find it easier to write with a photo in mind.  It could easily be done the other way, but for some reason I feel like I'm at a blank without the photo there already.  Pinterest is a life saver for when I don't have/can't take a fitting photo either.

In terms of planning, I like to have one (or four) notebooks around to scribble down post ideas, lists and video concepts.  I used the one in the photo to keep track of things I'd bought for my Diary of a Spendaholic series way back when.  Pinterest is another way I like to plan as well; I have a couple of 'hidden' boards squirreled away, full of inspiration.

When it comes to writing up posts, I'm a laptop girl.  It seems Mac is the way to go, but I'm stuck in my ways.  My very first laptop was an Acer, a great starting point.  It's important to do a lot of homework to check if a laptop will meet your expectations, these Acer laptop reviews should help!

Moving on to reading blogs, this is where I feel I'm slacking lately.  I never have time to sit down and read, and the tablet I bought a while back has sadly sat quite redundant.  I need to get back into using it with the Bloglovin app, but if you're into matchy-matchy like me you might be interested to hear that Acer do tablets too.  Again, read around to see if it's the right one for you, but check out the reviews here as well!

And in November, I managed 1, 2, 3, 4 (with just Leanne!), 5, 6, 9, 10 and 14.  7 is happening this month, as is 8 (hopefully!).  I think I've moved on from 11 (I'm all about monochrome for the moment), fingers crossed Mum offers to cook me 12 and, unfortunately, we might be a bit too busy for 13!
How was November for you?

Argento-silver-wishbone-bracelet
My sisters and I are pretty close.  We're not the type of share-it-all family, but we do see each other weekly and are always there for each other.  We're all at different stages in our lives, but in our own ways at crossroads, so these Argento sterling silver wishbone bracelets* seemed like the perfect way to give a piece of jewellery with a story.

Nichola's wish
Nichola's my big sister and the one I can turn to when I need advice.  She's a fantastic mum to my gorgeous niece, Ella, and has another little bubba on the way.  When I asked Nichola what her wish was, she told me "a happy, healthy life full of fun and laughter" which is, pretty much, what I'd have said.   Nichola and her husband have pretty much got it sorted, so I really do hope this next year (I'm planning ahead!) is a happy one for them.

Zara's wish
Zara's my younger sister, and it can be hard to remember that she's not little anymore!  I guess she'll always be the baby of the family, but it's a sobering thought when I remember that at her age I was in my second year at uni!  Whenever I need a shopping partner, Zara's happy to oblige and I love her because she puts up with me dragging her around here, there and everywhere.  She can be a little fluffy so it's no surprise that she didn't really give me an answer when I asked what her wish would be.  So I guess it's my older sister duty to make one for her.  She's just started a new job and got herself a new car, so my wish for Zara is to enjoy her growing independence and continue to flourish.  Every time I see her I feel like she's become a little bit more grown up...where did that little ratbag who used to annoy me when I had friends over go?

My wish
I've been thinking long and hard about where my life is going in recent months.  I sometimes feel that I'm wasting it and just existing rather than truly living.  Life's too short to put up with anything that doesn't make you happy, and in the words of Robbie Williams, if it don't feel good what are you doing it for?  I hope I can decide where I want to go and take steps to get there.  Wish me luck!

Couldn't resist fitting in a Britney Christmas song reference in the title!
