July 2014's memory: pottery painting

Should I start by addressing the fact that I've got crazy different hair here? I've been wanting to go pink for a while now, so on the first day of the summer holidays I bit the bullet and did it! We used Bleach London in Rose, as per the instructions, after lightening my hair. But it went to this peachy colour? I don't actually mind it 90% of the time, but every now and then it looks slightly more orange than pink...which I'm not a fan of!

Anyway - on with the memory!  Zara's choice of pottery painting was on this month's agenda, so we headed to a local craft village to get the job done.  Zara went for a cat bowl, but I've learnt from previous experience that I much prefer the freedom of a flat surface to get creative with.  In the end I opted for this little tile which I'm planning to use as a coaster, and painted it with feathers.

We ended up staying there for a good couple of hours; it was nice to be tucked away in a corner together and left to chat uninterrupted.  The process of painting was really relaxing and therapeutic, and I relished having the opportunity (and almost 'obligation') to just let our creativity run wild.
Once we'd finished painting and left our wares to be glazed, we headed outside to the sweet cabin Zara had clocked on the way in.  Loaded up with varieties of fudge (I went with smarties fudge....delicious!) we finished the morning with ice cream and a wander around the cute shops.

I think this has been one of my favourite challenges!  It was a great way to de-stress and really inexpensive as well.  Definitely something I'll be making the time to do more of!

  1. The feather tile, aka coaster, looks lovely! I don't think I'd want to put a mucky mug on it. Haha!
