Make up: a matte revelation

24.10.14

I tend to be a shimmer-girl all the way.  I'm not one to shy away from glitter, but lately I've been rocking the matte trend with gusto.

For my base I've been going all out.  A combination of my L'Oreal Infallible 24 Hour Foundation blended with Inglot Cream Powder Foundation and a touch of 2true 3 in 1 Concealer gives my face a subtly contoured look.  A layer of my usual Rimmel Wake Me Up Concealer under my eyes leaves me good to go!  Ok so it's a bit of a faff in the morning, but if it gets me a step closer to looking all Kim K-esque then I don't mind!  And whilst I wait for that all to sink in, I go in with my Anastasia Beverly Hills Dipbrow Pomade for perfectly sculpted brows.

Eyelid primer is a step I can't skip, and for this look it's been MAC's Soft Ochre Paint Pot that I've been opting for.  And you know when people describe a colour as their "perfect lid colour"? Yeah, I've never had that.  Until now!  A wash of Foxy from Urban Decay's Naked 2 Palette with MAC's Wedge swooped over the top finally leaves me a lid colour that's not too light and stark.  And for this look, it's all about the matte contour.....I find Naked from the Naked Palette, warmed up with the tiniest amount of Benefit Hoola Bronzer just above it is the perfect crease shade for me.  Followed up with Naked 2's Tease just underneath, winged out slightly and blended into the outer corner of the lid; it really does give the most classic contoured eye look.

I've been getting my gel liner game back on and for this it has to be the Maybelline Black Gel Liner applied with the Real Techniques Liner Brush.  The thinnest line with a tiny flick...then eyelashes curled and mascara applied - my HG MaxFactor one with Barry M Lash Vegas Fibres - and the eyes are complete.

Now for cheeks.  You'll be surprised to know that I've stepped away from my beloved highlighters; the lighter concealer shade used with the foundation is enough to bring a bit of light to my face.  Some days I'll dab a little more on, as well as Sleek's Contour Kit to take the cheekbones to another level.  And for blush it's all about Sleek's Powder Blush in Suede - the perfect subtle, 'your cheeks but better' (I'm making that a thing now) shade.

No Kylie Jenner-style look would be complete without the lips.  MAC's Soar is rarely out of rotation, and when blended with Honey Love it's the ultimate 90s matte lip.

And there it is!  A totally matte look without a hint of shimmer in sight!
