2014 is the year that I got back into reading again, so it seemed fitting to share with you some of my favourite reads.  I've ploughed through a fair few books, but didn't love them all enough to compile a decent-sized list here, so I've added in my favourite blogs of 2014 as well.  Hopefully you'll find something new to read....enjoy!

Glitter's a controversial topic when it comes to make up.  I think back to previous attempts and cringe, but d'you know what?  This year, I think I've cracked it!  There has been the odd occasion that I've wondered just *how* much glitter is acceptable to wear to work, but on Christmas day there's no choice but to go all out.  Here's what I'll be wearing tomorrow....

Aside from the usual base (L'Oreal Infallible foundation, Chanel Soleil Tan de Chanel and Anastasia Dipbrow Pomade), I'll be using Clarins Instant Concealer.  It's a new purchase, and one of the best concealers I've used.  A little goes a long way, and it works well to hide dark circles.  It's the most expensive concealer I've ever bought, but you do get a decent amount for your money.

Concealing done, I'll use the 2true 3 in 1 Concealer to act as a brightener.  It's really budget-friendly and the perfect yellow-tone to use as part of my contour routine.  I find it doesn't sit too well directly under my eyes, so I tend to apply it mainly on my cheek and brow bones to add light to my face.  Followed by some serious contouring with the Sleek Face Contour Kit and I'll have a face Kim K would be proud of!  <<< Exaggeration of the year perhaps?

Still on the topic of cheeks, a light dusting of MAC Melba blush stops everything looking too brown-toned, and I'll finish by dabbing Topshop's Glow in Gleam across the tops of my cheekbones, down the bridge of my nose and on my cupid's bow to leave a gorgeous dewy glow to my skin.

Now on to the fun part - the eyes.  After applying MAC Powersurge eye kohl to my tightline I'll use MAC Soft Ochre paint pot as a base.  Next comes a sweeping of Benefit's Hoola Bronzer to contour through the socket and I'm ready for the glitter.  Bobbi Brown's Sparkle Eye Shadow in Sunlight is a beautiful yellow-gold colour that's actually surprisingly flattering over the neutral base given by the paint pot.  I'll curl my lashes and apply two coats of MaxFactor Eye Brightening Tonal Black Volumising Mascara.  Once that's dry, Collection Glam Crystals Dazzling Gel Liner in Funk adds a little extra sparkle, and because it's gel it'll stay put all day.

I'm in two minds about lip colour, but at the moment I'm leaning towards a festive red lip.  If that's still the case tomorrow, it'll be the YSL Glossy Stain for the perfect long-lasting look.  If not, a pink gloss.  But if you can't wear red lips to sit at home on Christmas day, when can you?!

So all that's left is to wish you all a very Merry Christmas.  I hope that wherever you are, and whatever you do, you have a joyful day.  Happy Christmas!

If asked, I would never have said I'm an interiors person, but one look at my pinterest boards would say otherwise.  One of my most used boards and favourite things to pin is interiors and you can pretty much guarantee that I'll find something new and home-y to pin on a daily basis.

As a broad summary, I'm obsessed with clean monochrome, exposed floorboards, copper detailing, gallery walls and looking at studies and desks in general.  I'd say 99% of my interiors pins centre around a desk in some way and I'm always looking at ways to design the perfect calming space to help get me in the blogging zone.

Lighting has been catching my eye lately (perhaps it's down to the age old blogger problem of low levels of light at this time of year) and I really want to invest in some sort of industrial-style desk lamp.  The ultimate dream would be a room dedicated to blogging, with a big white desk and skylights to flood the space with natural light.  With monochrome roof blinds, of course!

Perhaps more attainable, would be smaller-scale decor updates.  Gilded is my trimming of choice and I'm obsessed with anything copper.  H&M do some gorgeous copper wire baskets that would be lovely for storing magazines or letters and copper candle holders are pretty easy to find at this time of year.  Think metallic details paired with bold black lines against a clean white background and you've pretty got my ideal.  In fact, I've got the basics already so I think in the new year I'll have to invest in some copper-toned updates!

Tis the season of giving, and when an email popped through offering me the chance to treat my Mum I jumped at the chance.  As a blogger I consider myself extremely lucky to be given the chance to occasionally sample products and I've had some fantastic experiences, but it's especially nice when the chance arises to treat the ones you love.

On this occasion, it was Bonmarche who got in touch; a store that Mum's never shopped in, asking her if she'd like to pick an item of clothing.  In all honesty, I think she was a little underwhelmed browsing their website but in the end she opted for this floral lace number designed by David Emanuel.  I'd never heard of David Emanuel, but I've since learnt that he designed Diana, Princess of Wales' wedding dress and came runner up in I'm A Celeb last year.  How did I miss this?!

The dress arrived and it's lovely.  Despite her reservations, Mum's dead chuffed with it and planning to wear it out for dinner with friends this week.  It's a really flattering fit, a modest length, good quality and would also be perfect for Christmas day.  They also sent a little hamper including Hotel Chocolat festive chocolates (I'm hoping these will be cracked out on Christmas Day!), a David Emanuel nail varnish duo and the Big Box of TLC from Sanctuary Spa.  I had a sniff of this set and it smells really luxurious - Mum's looking forward to having a pamper day with this!

It was really nice being able to treat Mum, and I know we both appreciated this opportunity....thanks Bonmarche!  How do you like to treat the ones you love?

I've never really been one for New Years Eve.  I've done the obligatory mad night out and always found it to be a let down.  I've done the staying in, and inevitably find myself filled with a sense of disappointment come midnight.  This year, I really fancy spending my evening surrounded by loved ones being, dare I say it, a grown up and perhaps throwing a dinner party.

I've been watching Lily Pebbles' vlogmas religiously and particularly enjoyed her birthday gathering video...it's pretty much my ideal get together.  Good food, good company and a low-key event complimented by soft lighting and candles.  Anywhere where I can eat off my lap is a winner for me, and it's definitely my inspiration for a NYE party.  I'm picturing rich copper metallics mixed with soft, blue-toned greys for the perfect dinner party colour palette.

Now here's where the giveaway comes in.  You may have noticed that one or two things from my new favourite shop, Anthropologie, have snuck in to my NYE mood board above, and the lovely folks there have given me a £50 Anthro voucher to give away to one lucky reader.  To be in with a chance of winning, here's what you need to do:

// Check out Anthropologie's NYE post and vote for your favourite night.
// Follow Scared Toast on bloglovin, youtube and on instagram.
// Go and follow my pinterest for lots of interior and New Year's Eve pinning, amongst other things.
// Leave a comment below telling me what you'll be doing this New Year's Eve.  This needs to include your email address so I can get in touch if you win!
// For an optional extra entry, tweet a link to this giveaway post.  I'll leave the phrasing up to you, but be sure to include @scaredtoast in there!

This giveaway is open to UK residents only and closes in two weeks,on the 28th of December when the winner will be chosen at random.  Good luck!

So my Christmas list is already done and dusted, but the more I hunt for presents to buy other people, the more I see things for myself!

1 // There's nothing like good cosy knitwear, and I can't remember the last time I bought a nice jumper.  I'm loving this minimalistic grey style from Espirit; it looks soft and slouchy but not too thick, so hopefully wouldn't end up boxy on me!

2 // This purse ticks all the boxes for me.  Saffiano leather, gold hardware, understated and the perfect size to fit in the smaller bags I favour for the weekend.  This one may have ended up as a cheeky Cyber Monday present to myself.....is it a little bit sad if I go as far as to wrap it up and put it under the tree?

3 // Fireside Treats is my favourite Yankee Candle ever.  I've had one on the go for a few months now, but I'm reaching the stage where I'm rationing out uses of it.  Definitely time for a new one!

4 // The Naked basics palettes have never appealed to me before now.  I own Naked 1 and 2, and to be honest, don't get the use out of them.  Since having a matte revelation lately, the shades in the Naked Basics 2 palette have been really appealing to me, so I'm keeping my fingers crossed that it appears under my tree on Christmas Day.

5 //  Trainers always feel clunky on my feet, but the Nike Rosheruns look to be a slimmer fit and would make the perfect gym/fashion hybrids.   Realistically,  they're probably not going to happen at this late stage in the present-buying game, but a girl can always hope!

What's made your Christmas list this year?

Last weekend I managed to tick a fair few bits off my December bucket list, including a trip to Winchester Christmas Market.  In truth, it was just too busy for us, but wow, what a beautiful city!  I was swept away by the beautiful architecture and found myself really wanting to find out more about its history.  Even Nick was impressed!

After shuffling the circuit around the ice rink, we couldn't face fighting the crowds to get to any more of the little huts.  And sadly, it was far too busy for any more photos than this....but on a side note, check out that blue sky!  It was the perfect mix of crisp, cold air with bright winter sun.....plus the perfect opportunity to wear my new winter hat!

Lunch followed, then we popped in to a few shops on the way back to the car.  I'm pleased to say I finally managed to track down Essie's Summit of Style and bring it home with me!  And whilst we weren't bowled over by the shops on offer, it was really nice to have a day out somewhere new and spend some quality time together.  We've both agreed that Winchester is a place we'll definitely be visiting in the future - on my part, if only to take more photos of the exquisite buildings.  Fingers crossed it'll be less busy next time round!

I've sat down to blog and been struck with the urge to just catch up.  It feels like ages since I've sat down and just chatted...how are you all?

Let's start with the big BF.  Black Friday; hands up who took advantage of the discounts?  I don't remember it ever being such a big deal before now, and while I'm never going to be one queuing up in mad crowds just to get the bargains, I certainly did a little a lot of shopping online.  Saving 20% here and there all adds up, and I'm pleased to say that, with the exception of Nick, all my Christmas shopping is done!  I was also struck with the urge to get the Christmas tree up on Sunday, but I'm refraining until the first weekend of December.  Tell me, when do you get your trees up?

The last two weekends have been the relaxing types, spent with family and friends.  Two trips to Guildford have occurred (where a new love for Anthropologie has blossomed), as well as a family lunch, trip to the garden centre (the best place to go and start feeling festive!), watching Game of Thrones and catching up on sleep.  Next weekend we're off to a Christmas market and will be eating our first Christmas dinner of the year.  Sometimes I feel like I've wasted my weekends sitting on the sofa watching Come Dine With Me (I can't be the only one who thinks this?!), but I love this time of year when every weekend is filled to the max with activities and time well spent.

So this week should be an exciting one!  With dinner and tree-decorating to look forward to, not to mention being able to light my Christmas Memories candle now that it's finally December....what do you have planned?
