I know I said I'd let these pictures speak for themselves, but I feel it's worth doing a quick round up in a bid to help any first time travellers to New York.
We stayed in an Airbnb in Williamsburg which, in hindsight, was too far out from the city centre. We got around using a travel card costing $39 (which I'd highly recommend getting) but spent a lot of time jumping on and off trains. On multiple occasions the train/tube (still not sure what to call it) would be unexpectedly terminated and we'd end up having to re-route, adding extra time to our journey which obviously meant less time to explore.
Speaking of time wasted...can we talk about the 3 hour customs queue we went through?? As in a solid 3-hour, non-moving queue. I've never known anything like it and as a result we missed our walking tour of Manhatten which was a real shame.
We did tick a lot of things off our list though...Central Park, Times Square, the Statue of Liberty, Ellis Island, Fifth Avenue, Grand Central Terminal and the High Line. One of the highlights for me was watching a burlesque show at Duane Park. One of the group was really keen to go and it turned out to be a great evening. It was "free" entry (as such) and we got seats at the bar with a $40 minimum spend. The view wasn't amazing (but scantily-clad ladies dancing isn't really my thing) although the live music was incredible. Don't you love when things exceed your expectations?
I guess it's also worth a slight word of "warning" if you've got plans to make a visit. Do not take photos with the people dressed up in Times Square....they'll want your money. Be prepared for people approaching you on the tube system...they'll also want your money. Remember that there's tax on top of most prices and don't forget to add tips on too.

So tell me, how was the last fortnight for you?
